Mobile visits to Roma settlements in villages Strabichevo and Barkasovo were held
Next camp, where in the framework of the project “Empowering Roma communities of Mukachevo district in decision making at the local level” the lawyers of the Human Rights Fund “Progress” for two days have given legal advice to 34 persons.
Roma people has been worried by the questions of registration and renewal of identification documents – passport documents and birth certificates. Roma also asked for legal aid for the education of children and access to health services.
Transcarpathian Roma discrimination in the realization of their fundamental rights, one of which is the right to education – no less actual than the absence of identification documents.
Children of Roma communities face discrimination in access to education and segregation during studying process and, as a consequence, they receive poor quality education. At the level of State, there is an absence of the specific program designed for integration of Roma children, and at the local level is often the situation is deteriorating inaction and demonstration of indirect discrimination. Children are “conserved” in the system, making it impossible to continue their social integration, and makes it impossible to get a higher education and find a job.
