Currently the conditions of social and legal protection of the poor people in Ukraine are extremely negative. The social and legal exclusion of the poor people due to ignorance and lack of understanding has limited their legal assistance possibilities. Lack of access to legal aid leads to the inability of the poor people to improve their living conditions.
Our experience shows that, for poor people, it’s very difficult to search for information – especially laws and regulations. People do not understand the complex terms, and require a thorough explanation of the laws. People are afraid and do not want to apply to the courts and the police to solve their own problems because they do not believe they will receive a fair decision. Those who come to us are poorly guided regarding the selection of government bodies and authorities from whom they would have to seek solutions to their own problems.
The work of the Centre of Legal Information and Consultation “Mukachevo Human Rights Center” is designed to identify the legal needs of the citizens within our region. We want to improve the living situation of people who live in conditions of poverty and, both social and legal exclusion. With the opportunity to receive free legal aid, poor people will be able to use the law, the legal system, and legal services. This will subsequently lead to the development of effective social and legal protection.
The main task of the Centre of Legal Information and Consultation “Mukachevo Human Rights Center” is not just to help people to solve their social and legal problems, but also to teach them how to protect their legitimate rights and interests by themselves. To show people that by using the knowledge and understanding of the laws, they will be able to prevent legal and social problems in their lives. They will be able to improve their standard of living, and most importantly, they will not be afraid to defend and protect their legitimate rights. Strengthening the legal capacity of those sectors of the population has a strategic component. By simultaneously establishing democratic values as the rule of law, ensuring equalily and providing fair access; we also strengthen citizens in economic sphere.
